Charlie Chaplin Studios (circa 1920), current home of Henson Recording Studios

Charlie Chaplin founded his studios at 1416 N La Brea Avenue, Hollywood in 1917 and since then the location has had a rich history as home to some the world's most celebrated talents, among them Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss and their record company A&M Records.

Alpert & Moss took over the Chaplin Studios in 1966 and headquartered their A&M Records label there, renovating one of the lot's two soundstages into a recording studio. The studios opened in 1968 and Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66's The Fool on the Hill was the first album to credit A&M Records. 1969 led to the addition of mixing/cutting rooms and reverberation chambers and from there the studios reputation as a world-class facility known for its superlative studios and engineers was set in stone.

In 1999, A&M Records was sold to Universal Music. Subsequently the studio location, including all the recording studio facilities and equipment, was purchased by The Jim Henson Company. Henson Recording Studios was established in 2000 and continues the legacy of technical expertise and excellent service founded by A&M.
